Learning from Mistakes

Learning from Mistakes

How often do you make mistakes?

Can you keep count?

From the little errors to the not-so little ones. Mistakes can be hard to deal with, leaving you with painful memories & reminders. They can make you feel ashamed of yourself and want to hide away from the world – especially friends and loved ones.

But mistakes are an inevitable part of our daily lives.

Embarrassing little mistakes can happen when putting together a simple meal and bigger ones while putting together a term paper. Whether it seems like a negligible type or one that stops your breathe and embarrasses you out of your skin; you can turn such mistakes into learning opportunities.

Opportunities to grow and change and become better. Rather than turn them into dark, scary road blocks.

The first step is to accept that mistakes are human; and you can never become perfect.  Seek instead excellence in whatever you do. And with this awareness and acceptance comes the opportunity to embrace the lessons found in each mistake. You can grow stronger and wiser from each experience, no matter how little.

You need mistakes

  •  to remain humble
  •  to strive to do better
  •  to learn about perseverance
  •  to find out better ways of doing things
  •  to keep striving towards your goals
  •  to face up to your fears
  •  to develop better coping skills
  •  as a reminder that you are simply human
  •  to remember that perfection can be attributed to Allah (Swt) alone

Life isn’t perfect

We love beauty in its perfect form, from art to architecture and technology. But life is far from perfect. We get crooked results and less than perfect outcomes in many things we do.

This world was created with imperfections. But, even with that realisation of an imperfect world we get angry and frustrated from the countless mistakes we make. Jannah [Paradise] is the only perfect place, and way beyond our imagination. Your goal should be to survive through the temporary imperfections so as to get to the perfect & eternal destination.

Don’t lose your sleep over what cannot be undone. Move ahead with focus over what needs to be done.

Final Words

  • # It is OK to make mistakes
  • # Accept your mistakes
  • # Value your capabilities
  • # Grow from your mistakes
  • # Don’t be too hard on yourself
  • # Stay confident
  • # Don’t lose your sleep
  • # You can’t reverse anything
  • # Forgive yourself
  • # So, the toast got burned not you – get a move on.

Each mistake brings a new learning experience.

Anticipate it and never stop learning.

So, how do you feel when you make mistakes? And how do you deal with it? Would love to hear about your experiences below in the comments…

  1. i have developed recently a positive thinking about my mistakes! i have been asking Allah to “educate” me, so whenever i make a mistake, i remember that, and i say to myself that this is my lesson, and actually, it helped me to hardens my relation with Allah SWT, i can see Him now more than i used to ,everywhere and in myself, i can see how he took care of me through years, and how he teached me his Deen and Quran, ….AlHamdoulilah 🙂

    • Alhamdulillah! I feel mistakes are actually a means of education, so it’s great to develop a positive attitude towards them. And if you think that for each mistake we make, we remain patient and seek a lesson instead – our connection with Allah will surely deepen.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
